welcome to oddball musicworks! When I start to write
a piece of music, I do it because something inspires me, or
because I have an idea I want to express. The last thing on my
mind is marketing, and, although I believe this is as it should
be, it has probably hurt my "career" as a musician/composer. I
have personally known some extremely gifted musicians, who,
because of their uniqueness, were deemed to be "unmarketable" by
the music industry, and were thus vanquished to spend the rest of
their days sitting on the sidelines. Of course, they could
restructure their "vision" to try and be "commercial", but this
is more often than not the kiss of death for them. You see, I
believe that the "pop" artists that are successful are the ones
who are "hearing" their music that way. They are writing and
performing at 100% of their capacity, and they mean it. If you
take someone who "hears" their music a certain way, and they try
to write in a different style in order to fit into a certain
genre, it just doesn't work. David Torn isn't going to play in
Metallica (unless Metallica wants Torn's "sound"). Thank you for visiting, and please come back soon. |
