lost... Is it possible to lose something you never had? Like a dream - can you lose a dream? Suppose there was something that you wanted so badly that you based your whole life around achieving it? Spent years - decades - working towards this goal. Spent every waking moment thinking about how to better prepare yourself for reaching this desired end. Gladly sacrificing whatever it took to get there... Then woke up one day and realized it no longer existed. The world had become a different place, and new rules were now in effect. This dream, this ideal, this way of life - gone as if it never was. The old ones who lived during its brief existence still groused about how great it was, but soon enough they would be gone too. So what do you do? How do you replace something that never really existed, except as a figment of your imagination? Is this what madness is - dreaming of a reality that's not really there? |
