Grim Determination Meets the Fields of Sorrow

This cd represents a significant time in my life; a period of tremendous growth and change.

These songs reflect my experiences during this period, recognizing the powerful yet fragile beauty of our lives.

It all goes by so fast - catch each moment and savor it before it's gone...

You may notice that this cd doesn't seem as "loud" as other modern cd's. There's a reason for this...

The short answer is that it just sounds better. Your volume knob is there for a reason.

The longer answer involves the physics of sound and the way the human ear perceives music. Why do almost all modern (non-jazz/classical) cd's sound so bad? In large part it's because all of the dynamics have been smashed like Godzilla crushing Tokyo. Modern digital processing has allowed us to pretend like we're making the music "louder" and "more powerful" when all we're really doing is making the listening experience about as pleasant as listening to a jackhammer. I really think that the nostalgia for vinyl and analog recording is because analog doesn't allow for this type of waveform annihilation...

I would like to say that I had the courage to master this cd with no compression on my own, but I needed the nudge from my thoughtful and provocative friend Barry Diament. I wanted him to master the cd, and he would only do it without using compression.

I took the leap, and I think it sounds better because of it. So turn it up and enjoy...
