darkness in the heart of your soul This was the first CD I produced and released of my own music. But before I even conceived this project, I had spent my whole life listening to music, practicing my instruments, playing gigs, joining and then forming bands, and dreaming of the day when I would make my first album. When the time came, it finally came about through my own hard work and the belief others had in what I was trying to do. I had spent years trying to interest major record labels in what I was doing, and there were times when a record contract seemed close, but ultimately it never happened. So, with the never-say-die DIY work ethic, I formed my own record label, Oddball Musicworks. And released my first record on it, "Darkness in the Heart of Your Soul". I am very proud of it. I hope you like it. - David Thomas Peacock |

how it was done... Well, first I had a burning desire to express myself through music. Then I spent 14 years or so learning everything I could about music and recording. I practice untold hours on 2 instruments, and played in many, many bands. Then several revolutions occurred in the music industry, starting with midi, that allowed musicians access to the previously secret world of recording... This cd was done using 2 blackface adats and an old Atari ST computer running Dr. T's KCS sequencer. At the very end of the project, I built my first PC and entered the modern era. Since the cd was already done, and running way beyond the the timeframe I had set for it, the only real contribution my new computer made was that I was able to master it on "Wavelab", an amazing and revolutionary program... |

welcome to oddball musicworks! When I start to write a piece of music, I
do it because something inspires me, or because I have an idea I
want to express. The last thing on my mind is marketing, and,
although I believe this is as it should be, it has probably hurt
my "career" as a musician/composer. I have personally known some
extremely gifted musicians, who, because of their uniqueness,
were deemed to be "unmarketable" by the music industry, and were
thus vanquished to spend the rest of their days sitting on the
sidelines. Of course, they could restructure their "vision" to
try and be "commercial", but this is more often than not the kiss
of death for them. You see, I believe that the "pop" artists that
are successful are the ones who are "hearing" their music that
way. They are writing and performing at 100% of their capacity,
and they mean it. If you take someone who "hears" their music a
certain way, and they try to write in a different style in order
to fit into a certain genre, it just doesn't work. David Torn
isn't going to play in Metallica (unless Metallica wants Torn's
"sound"). Thank you for visiting, and please come back soon. |
